Creating a Perfect Room that Reflects Your StyleView our Area Rugs category |
So, you've worked hard searching for furniture that will fit perfectly into a room and still go with the odds and ends that you already have. When it's all put in place, it looks great except there’s something missing; that extra home accessory that makes the room reflect who lives there. It may be a painting that is particularly meaningful or maybe just nice to look at or a sculpture or vase that brings your home decoration all together. Whatever home accessory you choose can be difficult to find and costly especially with the high price of gas and the crunch on our time.
I do most of my home accessory shopping online to draw my rooms together. If you've read any of my other articles, you are aware that I am an online junky. I don’t waste my time and energy (I'm no spring chicken) running all over town to find the right piece to complete the look of a room. I sit in my family room with my laptop and shop many stores with no exertion or wasted gas. eMassive has many pieces that fill the bill. Their furnishings page has a large selection of home accessories including art that is unsurpassed by any other site I've ever searched. You can customize what you choose right down to the mat choice. They even offer most art on canvas or paper. The frame selection is very impressive. The best feature for me is the final look that they give you after you've designed exactly how you want your art piece made. I also appreciate the zoom in on the frames so I can see all the carving and other details. The most amazing thing is that after you've customized the art and you receive it, if you don't like it “in person” they will take it back and refund your money! Now that’s quite a deal.
I find that home decoration choices such as vases, lamps, sculptures, decorative shelving, pillows, and silk plants are the finishing touches that make a room feel comfortable, cozy, and held-together. Odd numbers of items is the rule when grouping them – one painting plus two shelves or five paintings etc. I like to mix every home accessory such as paintings/pictures with a few small shelves to give the arrangement some depth and interest. A few items on the shelves to help carry the colors of the furnishings to the walls are the final additions. Remember, when working with home decoration, less is more when placing items on decorative shelves. The color of the shelves can mimic the furnishings and/or the art where they will be hung. I like to mix all kinds of art since I have no real favorites. I know what I like and that varies from modern to traditional pieces. I like to place vases and sculptures on tables to add warmth and interest. Again, for the home decoration-conscious, these pieces should tie the colors of the room together as can throw pillows.
Lastly, hard floor surfaces can be softened with carpets while also tying together conversation groupings of furniture. A strategically placed carpet in the colors and style of the furnishings will make a major statement. Again, I get my carpets online. I haven't found a better source for carpets and rugs than eMassive for variety, selection, and price. The carpets I have ordered came rolled and protected in heavy plastic. They were easy to unroll and place – even the 8 ft. X 11 ft. one! Place the rugs so that anyone sitting in the room can place their feet on it. That will be a cozy and engaging setting.
